Festa Kraftverk the power plant
1951 - 1973
Built in 1951, Festa Kraftverk was a milestone in Oppdal’s electrification—though not without controversy. Most locals opposed the shift toward centralized energy production, preferring to rely on smaller, independent power sources. Despite resistance, the power plant was constructed, marking a turning point for the region.
For over two decades, Festa Kraftverk supplied electricity to Oppdal, playing a key role in modernizing the area. However, in 1973, the larger Driva Kraftverk took over, making Festa obsolete. Stripped of its equipment, the building was abandoned and left to decay, slowly fading into history.
Yet, despite its short lifespan, Festa Kraftverk was an economic success. Now, decades later, its story is entering a new chapter. The once-forgotten structure is being revived, transformed into a space for connection and creativity—a new meeting place in Oppdal. Its history, once contested, is now preserved in its raw, industrial character, bridging the past and the future.

The building was mainly left alone to decay in this era.
Festa Kraftverk re-opened
2019 - 2022
In 2019, we began work on preserving the building and its surroundings. Three years later, in 2022, we invited the local community to an art exhibition by Pål Lersveen. Many locals attended, sharing their personal stories and connections to the place. Their memories gave us a deeper understanding of its significance, helping to guide us as we moved forward with its development.
