Build With Us

Spring 2026 · Oppdal, Norway

Jesper står foran mikrohuset

This spring we invite 3 volunteers to stay at Festa Kraftverk for 1–2 months and take part hands-on in developing the place further.

Festa Kraftverk is a former hydroelectric power plant in the forest by the river Driva in Oppdal, Norway. The building stands alone in the landscape, surrounded by forest, cliffs and mountains. We are transforming it into a cultural space for retreats, artist residencies and curated events.

The Place

Inside the power plant you’ll find the old machine hall with a 10-meter ceiling and large south-facing windows, along with three additional floors of raw and characterful rooms. Shared areas include kitchen, workspace, lounge and bathroom.

You will live in your own private space:
– A small wooden microhouse with roof terrace
or
– A spacious glamping tent with bed, sofa, dining area and wood stove

All are located close to the power plant but with distance between them for privacy.

What You’ll Do

April: preparation and building
May: preparation and building + participation in events

Tasks may include:
– Small construction projects
– General maintenance
– Preparing spaces for retreats and gatherings
– Creating shared meals
– Documentation (photo/video/creative formats)
– Marketing or communication, depending on your skills

– Other relevant skills you would like to contribute with

You should have some practical skills and be comfortable living in nature.

The Process

The stay will begin with practical building work. Together we will complete and improve the living infrastructure on site.

This includes finishing a platform for a glamping tent, upgrading the microhouse interior, building shelves and storage solutions, extending parts of the kitchen area and creating a small washing room. We will also improve common areas and prepare the spaces for the upcoming season.

Expect hands-on work. You will take part in shaping both the physical environment and the foundation of the project.

What You’ll Experience

You’ll gain insight into:
– Transforming an industrial building into a cultural space
– Event production and preparation
– Small-scale construction
– Community-building and independent cultural projects

Outside work hours, you have direct access to forest trails, river swims and mountain hikes. Oppdal village is 15 minutes away with train connections to Trondheim and Oslo.

This exchange is about responsibility, creativity and learning by doing — while living simply in Norwegian nature.

Practical Details

You contribute 5 days per week, approximately 5 hours per day (25 hours weekly).

In return, we provide:

– Private accommodation (microhouse or glamping tent)
– Shared kitchen and living facilities
– Food is covered during your stay
– Access to workspace and Wi-Fi
– Participation in events and gatherings

This is an exchange based on mutual trust and responsibility. We value initiative, presence and a positive attitude.
